BioRed® for Heart Health
Phosphatidylcholine plays a critical role ensuring the proper balance of cholesterol and is an integral component of HDL known as “good cholesterol”.1

The lipid modifying effects and antioxidants found in krill oil are known to be Cardioprotective in CVD disease patients.
How it works
Phosphatidylcholine being the main phospholipid circulating in plasma, is an integral component of the lipoproteins, especially HDL or "good cholesterol” that helps in removing excess cholesterol from the body.

Dietary intakes of Omega-3 is considered inadequate in several populations in Malaysia which is important to lower risk of heart disease. Diet and lifestyle are important key modifiable risk factor for the prevention of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD)1.
“1 in 6 Coronary Heart Disease deaths in Asia are linked to low EPA+DHA intake.”
Global Burden of Disease Report
Prevalence of Cardiovascular risk among Malaysians adults
-
In 2016, the principal cause of death in Malaysia was ischemic heart diseases [dept. of statistics]. Risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), based on the 2015 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS)
-
Overweight / obesity 54.4%
-
Hypercholesterolemia 47.7%
-
Hypertension 30.3%

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
Reducing inflammation may help in preventing heart disease and progression. Inflammation can cause arterial plaque formation, loosening of plaque and cause blood clots, the primary cause of heart attacks and strokes 4,11. Krill oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, pro- resolving and also antioxidant abilities due to its rich Phospholipid and Omega-3 content, and Astaxanthin that is highly absorbable and bioavailable.
“Krill oil in combination with lifestyle changes that include diet & exercise may significantly reduce risk of CVD morbidity and mortality.”

OXIDATIVE STRESS
The Treatment of Cardiovascular Heart Disease (CHD) is challenging due to difficulty in treating its progression due to ongoing:
-
Hypertension
-
Arteriosclerosis
-
Inflammatory factors
Oxidative stress often induces these conditions and a high level of oxidative stress is related to the progression of CHD. A recent study proved that Antarctic krill oil has strong Anti-oxidant activities and is effective in alleviating cardiovascular heart disease in CHD patients 6.
ANTIOXIDANTS
BioRed® has higher amounts of EPA & DHA typically more than 33% of total FA content, which significantly increases cellular absorption of Omega-3 which is especially important for cellular anti-oxidant defenses. The protective functions in CHD patients is attributed to the increase in antioxidant properties via EPA and DHA 6.
